Anti
Plagiarism Unit (APU) at Faculty of Quality Enhancement, Research &
Publications, at NUML, has initiated a series of training sessions and
workshops for instructors and students, on Turnitin use. These are conducted by
Mr. Adnan Rashid, Focal Person for Anti-Plagiarism at NUML. Different
categories of participant attended and utilized these sessions. These are
initiated in order to implement NUML’s Plagiarism Policy across all departments
and facilitate instructors in effective Turnitin use. The details of these
sessions are as under:

One-Day Workshop on Quality Assurance
Processes and NUML
Plagiarism Policy for Focal Persons from
Regional Campuses
On 15th October 2012, Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) organized a One-Day Workshop on Quality Assurance Processes and NUML Plagiarism Policy for Focal Persons from Regional Campuses of NUML. The four interactive sessions of the workshop focused on Quality Assurance Mechanisms at departmental level, plagiarism awareness among students and instructors, NUML Plagiarism Policy and Turnitin Implementation processes. The resource persons for the said workshop were Dr. Khurrum Shehzad Azam (Head, QEC), for Quality Assurance Processes, and Mr. Adnan Rasheed (Focal Person for Anti-Plagiarism), for Turnitin Implementation and NUML Plagiarism Policy.

Sessions for M.Phil
Instructors
A
Turnitin Orientation session for Instructors of M.Phil Classes was held at NUML
by Adnan Rashid, Focal Person for Anti-Plagiarism, on 25th November
2011. This session aimed at highlighting NUML’s Plagiarism Policy and giving a
hands-on practice to Instructors in using Turnitin. It was interactively
attended by 20 M.Phil instructors from various disciplines. Clarity regarding
Turnitin use was further reinforced by on-spot demonstration of solution to many
queries raised by participants.

Turnitin
Orientation Sessions
for M.Phil Students
A two-day session titled as “ How not to
Plagiarize?” was carried out for M.Phil
students at NUML by Adnan Rashid, Focal Person for Anti-Plagiarism, on 2nd
& 9th December 2011. It was organized to inform students about
NUML’s Plagiarism Policy and addressing common confusions about plagiarism,
referencing styles, etc. The queries of the participants were noted and attended
to/ answered right there. Many aspects of Turnitin document processing were
demonstrated live, to acquaint students with the mechanism.

Turnitin
Orientation Sessions
for Departmental Focal Persons
NUML
assigns a vital role to focal persons from each department, in facilitating
instructors and students in Plagiarism-related issues. In this regard A
Turnitin Orientation session for Departmental Focal Persons was conducted by
Adnan Rashid, Focal Person for Anti-Plagiarism, on 12th November 2011.
This session aimed at highlighting NUML’s Plagiarism Policy and giving a
hands-on practice to Focal Persons in using Turnitin. It was interactively
attended by 11 representatives of various departments at NUML. Clarity regarding Turnitin use was further
reinforced by on spot demonstration of solution to many queries raised by
participants.
In
continuation of sessions, a Two-day training workshop was also organized. It was
attended by 18 representatives from different departments at NUML. It was
organized to equip the participants with necessary Turnitin knowledge and
practice, address individual queries and set targets for implementation of
NUML’s Plagiarism Policy at department level.
The workshop ended on elaboration of duties and targets for participants
as focal persons.
